Slovenia entry requirements

Select your nationality to see your entry requirements for Slovenia. Slovenia is a Schengen Area member. Information updated for 2026.

Slovenia and the Schengen Area

Slovenia is a full Schengen Area member. The standard Schengen rule applies: visa-free nationalities may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries combined — not 90 days per country. EU/EEA citizens have unrestricted freedom of movement.

ETIAS — coming late 2026

The EU's European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to launch in late 2026. It will require pre-travel online registration (similar to the US ESTA) for visa-exempt non-EU nationals visiting the Schengen Area. The fee is expected to be €7, valid for 3 years. This tool will be updated when ETIAS launches. Until then, eligible nationalities can enter without pre-registration.

Travelling from non-Schengen neighbours

If you are entering Slovenia from Croatia (an EU member, fully Schengen since January 2023), Italy or Austria, there are no border checks. Crossing from non-Schengen countries (Bosnia, Serbia) will involve passport control.
